You love Rome? You have never been to Rome but you would like a sneak preview? Then come here every day and you will find a brand new picture, taken by one of its inhabitants: me! Wish list (of photos!) welcome
Your leap from the gastronomic (humble mode) to the operatic (heroic mode) is perfectly in keeping with my assertion the other day that your blog has resonances of Fellini. With the appropriate text, today’s image could easily be a poster for a Verdi opera, or even a new (as yet unwritten) work about the bizarre life and terrible times of Il Duce (by Menotti, perhaps?).
It even reminds me of the work of Caspar David Friedrich, a northern Romantic artist of the nineteenth century, whose epic paintings are equally dramatic and 'haunted' by the past. For example, the vast sky that forms an incandescent backdrop to the razor sharp silhouettes of natural and man made forms promises a new dawn of sorts, but its acidic colour also hints at future strife.
Frozen somewhere between hope and despair, this is a very postmodern image of history.
