John Paul Remembered a Year After His Death


VATICAN CITY - Tens of thousands of people from around the world flocked to the Vatican on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul and pray that he be made a saint soon.

Città del Vaticano- Decine di migliaia di fedeli da tutto il mondo si sono riunite in Piazza S. Pietro per commerorare il primo anniversario della morte del papa Giovanni Paolo e per chiedere la sua santificazione.

My most lasting memory of the Vatican is how huge it is in real life. Huge is not right word. Maybe enormous is better. My impressions of Pope John Paul are similar.

I had no idea how much people adored the Pope JPII until I visited Rome and saw one of his last masses at St. Peter. People climbed on chairs to see him better when they wheeled him in and out, they clapped as if he was a rock star, and mostly had this incredible look on their faces ... impossible to describe such adoration but I don't think I'm going to ever forget that look anytime soon.
